Patrick Lebreton also confirmed what was announced last year : Reunion Island tourism and the Réunion Tourism Federation supported by the departmental council, will merge next year.
The future Reunion Tourism Committee will deal with both local and foreign tourism and will be responsible for both the promotion and structuring and development of the tourist offer.. He will be the contact person for the tourist offices, public actors and socio-professionals in the sector.
Another development in sight in tourism governance : The Vanilla Islands, association hosted by the IRT and widely supported by the Region since its creation in 2010, shortly after the arrival of Didier Robert as president of the community, will disappear in its current form. Patrick Lebreton believes that the regional structure headed by Pascal Viroleau and focused on promoting cruising has benefited Reunion far too little compared to what it has brought it.. However, the Region does not want to “abandon the cruise sector nor the idea of cooperation, but with a slightly different organization”.
