After Saint-Pierre and Saint-Paul, Saint-Denis launched its rental offer of electrically assisted bicycles on November 19. It is broken down into two products. Sodiparc has acquired 30 “VAE” offered for long-term rental of one to three months, at the monthly rate of 30 euros.
The low price aims to create a taste for this type of bike and to encourage purchase., as do the two other mixed economy transport companies engaged in this approach : Semittel in the South and Semto in the West. More visible in the urban landscape, the Vélacé offer was designed and financed by Ahmed Adame’s company MAD, winner of the call for projects launched two years ago by the city of Saint-Denis. First four stations, each equipped with ten parking and bicycle charging terminals, were installed. They are located in front of the state garden, at the corner of rue Pasteur and rue de Paris, place Paul-Vergès (near the Petit-Marché) and on the Barachois. Like the Parisian Vélib, and the experiment launched in August by Semittel in Saint-Pierre and Saint-Louis, Vélocean allows you to rent VAEs via a smartphone application. The rate is 5 cents per minute, with a free period depending on the subscription chosen. MAD contributed to the design of these bikes to ensure their robustness and resistance to vandalism attempts.. They also feature a 7-speed derailleur to help users climb hills, sometimes important in the capital.
