For calculations of the number of companies, INSEE took the company into account in its legal definition. According to this approach, the non-agricultural and non-financial commercial sectors of Réunion counted 45,600 companies in 2019. According to the economic definition of the company, the economic fabric of the island has 42,650 companies with a single legal unit, 675 companies bringing together 2,250 legal units with their head office in Reunion and 170 legal units located outside Reunion. otherwise, 700 legal units with their head offices in Reunion belong to companies that do not have their head office on the island and their activity is therefore no longer recorded in Reunion. According to this approach, the overall added value of Reunion companies drops to 6,1 billion euros.
