Pôle Emploi figures for the 1st quarter of 2022 confirm the decline in unemployment, observed on the island for two years. The number of category A applicants (required to look for work and without activity) averaged 124,060 in the first three months of the year, down by 2,1% over three months and 5,7% over one year. In total, the number of applicants required to look for work, having or not carried out an activity (categories A, B, C) stood at 157,600 in the 1st quarter, down by 1,2% over three months and 3,6% over one year. Over a year, the decline is more marked among young people and those aged 25-49 (-7,3%) only among those aged 50 and over (-2,1%). INSEE statistics already highlighted the employment dynamic in 2021. In the last quarter of 2021, the volume of paid working hours has exceeded its pre-crisis level by 8 to 10%. Wage employment continued to increase, with 3,400 additional jobs compared to the previous quarter. (+1,2%). The signing of numerous apprenticeship contracts and the significant use of temporary work have contributed to this trend.. Around 3,000 jobs were created each quarter of last year in Reunion Island, where growth in salaried employment reached 5%, almost twice as much as at the national level (+2,8%) .
