The Environment Department, of the development and housing of Reunion (DEAL) and Ademe have carried out, in partnership with the Réunion Import and Trade Union (SURE), an information visual to raise awareness of waste sectors with extended producer responsibility (REP) operational in Reunion.
This visual has been distributed since the beginning of 2023 by post to all Reunion Islanders., in order to provide them with simple and readable information to encourage them to direct their recoverable waste to the right collection structures and not just to the two usual household waste bins. The visual is completed by an application and a website (www.dechets-rep.com) which make it possible to geolocate the collection points of different waste. Financed by an eco-contribution applied when purchasing products, REP sectors manage, collect and recycle waste generated by products with a limited lifespan. We know less that their other objective is to act on the entire life cycle of products (ecodesign, waste prevention, extension of the duration of use, end-of-life waste management), in order to save the planet's natural resources and reduce the environmental impacts of waste. They thus make it possible to develop local and sustainable jobs.
