The conservation plan for the Chaumière district, in Saint-Denis, was officially signed on January 29 by the state and the municipality. It provides for 26 million euros of investment in the rehabilitation of the five private buildings and public spaces in the district., largely abandoned by their owners.
The Dionysian district, in the ramps of Saint-François, has attracted attention for around fifteen years for its state of deterioration and the growing proportion of Mahorais tenants. The five buildings, built in 1963, have 345 housing units. In 2021, la Chaumière has been integrated into the national strategy for the prevention and fight against poverty, allowing public authorities to intervene in private real estate. To begin with, the National Housing Improvement Agency (Anah) will inject 7 million euros into the most urgent works, mainly the security of common areas. The exterior spaces will then be treated, then solutions will be sought to support landlords or occupants in financing the renovation of the most degraded housing.
