Réunion Pêche Australe is the first Reunion company specializing in toothfish fishing in the French Southern and Antarctic lands to obtain the French Sustainable Fishing eco-label.
“We are proud to be able to say that RPA is also the first fishery practicing “frozen on board” to benefit from it at the national level”, explains Sébastien Camus, president of Réunion Pêche Australe. The Sustainable Fishing eco-label results from a desire by the French fishing industry to offer an eco-label that is easily recognizable by consumers.. To get it, candidates must respond to a framework based on four main axes : ecosystem, environment, social and quality. Added to this are the criteria of traceability and product quality guarantee, throughout the marketing chain. More than a hundred French companies are now certified : armaments, ships, distributors, tradespeople, fishmongers… RPA introduces toothfish into the list of Sustainable Fishing ecolabel products (alongside bluefin tuna in the Mediterranean, bluefin tuna and line-caught bass in Vendée).
