Quantity of water needed to manufacture the garment, CO2 released into the atmosphere expressed in kilo, product toxicity, effect on biodiversity… Inspired by Nutri-Score, a system assessing the environmental impact of clothing should emerge by the end of 2023. The announcement was made at the end of November by the Secretary of State for Ecology, Bérangère Couillard, and the Minister of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion, Christophe Béchu. Textile manufacturing is in fact a source of pollution regularly denounced by NGOs. Thirteen major French textile brands have already committed to implementing this Eco-Score which proposed a rating probably based on letters as for the Nutri-Score. Around ten scale systems based on different criteria are currently being studied..
