A QR Code on the bottle label linking to a product information site : this is the new method of consumer information offered to professionals in the wine and spirits sector by the U-Label platform developed by the European Wine Business Committee (FAST) et Spirits Europe.

The French Spirits Federation, the French Federation of Aperitif Wines and the Union des Maisons & Marques de Vin are at the origin of this innovation intended for wine and spirits professionals. The U-Label platform was launched at the end of September from Brussels in the presence, notably, of the Commissioner for Agriculture of the European Union, Janusz Wojciechowski. This online tool now allows businesses in the wine sector, aperitif wines and spirits to provide every European consumer, in a dematerialized manner and in your language, information relating to their products. These will be made available by means of an electronic label, accessible via a QR code printed on the bottle label. The U-Label platform, which will be operational from November 1, 2021, will also help businesses in the sector, in particular the numerous SMEs/VSEs, to meet new consumer expectations in terms of information on the nutritional characteristics and list of ingredients of their products. It is a continuation of the Info Calories website (http://info-calories-alcool.org), launched in 2016 by the three partners.

Transparent and scalable information
“Allowing consumers to make informed consumption choices is an integral part of the social responsibility of our houses. » underlines Michel Chapoutier, president of the Union of Houses & Wine Brands. For the president of the French Spirits Federation, Jean-Pierre Cointreau, “it is essential to meet consumer expectations in terms of transparency of product information, without risking making the label illegible or dated, thanks to digital tools ». “This innovative platform will allow consumers to better understand the complexity and richness of our products” adds Jérôme Perchet, president of the French Federation of Aperitif Wines.

U-Label partners
Created in 1996, the French Spirits Federation brings together nearly 250 companies (from SMEs to groups with an international vocation) supporting 100,000 jobs in all regions of mainland France and overseas territories. Its main mission is to deal with all questions of general interest relating directly or indirectly to the development, on the importation and marketing of spirit drinks. With more than 50 years of existence, the French Federation of Aperitif Wines is a federation of producers and distributors of aperitif wines. It brings together three families of wine-based aperitif drinks : flavored wines, sparkling wines and liqueur wines. The FFVA is a member of the European Wine Business Committee. The Union of Houses & Marques de Vin is the national federation of wine trading houses. It brings together fifteen regional unions covering all wine regions and all categories of wine.. UMVIN brings together around 700 wine trading houses.
