Roland-Garros airport welcomed 1,746,208 passengers during the first eight months of the year, figure almost identical to that of the same period in 2023. The clear increase in passengers in transit between the islands of the Indian Ocean and France (+11,4 %) compensates for a slight decline (-0,2 %) local passengers, starting or ending their trip in Reunion.
The number of passengers fell slightly (-0,8 %) between the metropolis and Reunion since the start of the year. The decline was limited to -0,4% on regional lines, thanks to frequentation of the Réunion-Mauritius link increasing by 6,7% during the first eight months of the year, even more pronounced in July and August. It compensates for the decline in traffic on other lines : -3,2% for Madagascar, – 8,3% for Mayotte, -10,7% for South Africa, while service to the Comoros and Seychelles was interrupted during the year. Traffic, on the other hand, recorded double-digit growth (+33,7 %) between Reunion and Bangkok. Goods traffic, for its part, increased by 19,7% since the start of the year. Imports are up 17,2 %, more than 15,000 tonnes, linked to disruptions to maritime services and the increase in navigation time between European ports and Reunion Island. Export freight jumped 28% and exceeded 5,000 tonnes at the end of August ; pineapple exports are on the rise again, and the airport benefits from its connectivity by welcoming growing transshipment traffic between the islands of the Indian Ocean and Europe.
