Patrick Lebreton, vice-president of the Region, responsible for economic affairs and president of Reunion Island tourism presented on October 10 the community's tourism roadmap until 2028, end of current term.
The priority strategic objective is to increase the revenue generated by tourism activity, rather than aiming to increase external visitor flows, he indicated, even if it is not a question of being satisfied with the 556,000 tourists welcomed in 2023. For the chosen one, 750,000 external visitors constitute a realistic objective for 2028, but seeking above all to attract tourists with a higher contribution, so as to reach 630 million euros in revenue (compared to 478 million last year) and increase the weight of tourism in the local economy.
For that, it will be necessary to create 3,000 additional jobs in the sector – which currently has 14,000 – and more than 3,000 additional commercial beds (16,777 today).
