SilMach, the French deeptech pioneer of silicon micromechanics, marketed in October on the Kickstarter platform, the first examples of a one-of-a-kind watch : TheTimeChanger.
SilMach achieved its first objective : convince the public and the media to support him in his first steps on the Kickstarter financing platform. The 1088 copies of the unique and limited series TheTimeChanger were available for pre-order on the global sales platform at the price of 1,850 euros each.. While since eighty-seven the stepper motor, invented by Marius Lavet, animates billions of watches, TheTimeChanger is the first watch in the world to incorporate a silicon core, opening new possibilities for nanotechnologies and watchmaking. The invention thus turns the page of eighty-seven years of watchmaking history. More than a watch object, this watch is intended to be an avant-garde project. The silicon core gives it complete magnetism and technical properties unique on the market. First of all, a frequency and ultra-precise control of the movement of the hands, with the ability to move them step by step in both directions (clockwise and counterclockwise). This precision is up to ten times higher than the COSC chronometric standard, with a variation of only ± 0,5 seconds per day. Ensuite, a unique optical effect : TheTimeChanger allows perpetual movement of the hands, made possible thanks to an acceleration of the movement frequency, characteristic of each mode and functionality of the watch.
A new lease of life for French watchmaking
TheTimeChanger is the result of twenty years of research and development, but also a story of commitment and bias : that of participating in a new lease of life in French watchmaking. Born from scientific research conducted in the heart of the historic cradle of watchmaking, each TheTimeChanger watch is designed and assembled in Besançon, equipped with a 100% French silicon core. With this exceptional timepiece, assembled by hand with the greatest care, SilMach demonstrates its determination to redefine the future of watchmaking by combining traditional artisanal expertise and cutting-edge technological innovation.
Spectacular autonomy and durability
TheTimeChanger has remarkable battery life for a classic battery-powered watch (CR2320), who exceeds ten years. It also has proven waterproofing up to 50 meters deep. (5ATM). This means it is resistant to splashes during hand washing and shallow immersion. Another advance, TheTimeChanger offers secret entry into different operating modes by simply pressing the pushers : a synchronized double pendulum animation of the hands, a manual calibration mode for the hands or a jump in time with an accelerated mode where the hours become minutes and the minutes become only seconds.
Elegance and ergonomics
Produced in collaboration with the Timex group, strategic partner of SilMach, TheTimeChanger was designed in Milan by the group's flagship designer, Giorgio Galli. Its matte anthracite stainless steel case resists corrosion, while its ribbed brass dial and lightweight aluminum hands offer a unique design and perfect readability. The anti-reflective sapphire glass guarantees great visual comfort in all circumstances.. Diameter : 42 mm. Thickness : 11 mm. Weight : 64 g. TheTimeChanger also stands out for its leather bracelets from the French manufacturer Jean Rousseau established in Pelousey since 1954.. The bracelets are equipped with a stainless steel folding clasp allowing an easy and secure adjustment.
SILMACH, PIONEER OF MICROMECHANIZATION
SilMach (Silicium Machinery) was created in 2003 in Besançon to bring to life, on an industrial scale, to the first MEMS micromachines (micro-electro-mechanical systems) hybrids. Pushing the limits of miniaturization, SilMach is notably at the origin of a nanodrone inspired by the “Dragonfly”, the smallest drone in the world, weighing 20 g ! The company designs, developed, manufactures and integrates MEMS microsystems via micromotors for the motorization of nomadic and connected systems or even energy-free micromechanical sensors for monitoring the health of structures. Patented PowerMEMS and ChronoMEMS, SilMach solutions have applications in aeronautics, defense, transportation, medical and now watchmaking.
