In a global context where the ecological transition becomes a priority, From the blade, Subsidiary of the Audemard group, major actor in building materials, crosses a new step towards a more environmentally friendly industry. Teralta inaugurates a revolutionary factory located at the port, devoted to the production of reduced carbon footprint cements.

Why do we talk about low carbon cement ?
Clinker manufacturing (main constituent of cement) is very CO2 issuing. Indeed, for clinker, You have to cook at very high temperature (more than 1,400 ° C) A mixture of limestone and clay. CO2 emissions are important and represent almost 7 % of global emissions. For Teralta, The solution to reduce the carbon footprint of its cements mainly comes from a reduced use of clinker and by developing new formulations of cements using substitution materials.

A strong commitment to the circular economy

The low carbon cement factory Teralta is part of a circular economy and sustainable innovation approach.

The objective : Locally produced a reduced carbon footprint cement while valuing the resources and waste available on the island and elsewhere. To begin with, Teralta will integrate into its manufacturing process dairy (a by-product of the production of melting in the upper furnaces) and Flying ash (a sub-product of the combustion of coal in power plants).

In a second time, The new factory will transform The Pouzzolane (volcanic rock) Naturally present in Reunion. This material not only reduces dependence on imported raw materials, but also to limit the carbon impact of production thanks to a short circuit.

Another major innovation : integration of thin micronized recycled concrete from the deconstruction of buildings. These materials will be revalued and integrated into the cement manufacturing process, thus limiting the extraction of new resources and reducing waste from the construction sector on the island. All these substitution materials will be reactivated with specific formulations thus reducing the use of CO2 generator clinker .

A unique manufacturing process in Reunion
Unlike traditional cement manufacturing processes, extremely energy -consuming and strong CO2 issuers, Teralta innovates with an ultra -fine separate grinding process. This technology improves energy efficiency and limit energy consumption, while maintaining optimal performance. Thanks to this advance, The factory will be able to Reduce the carbon footprint of cements up to 70 % products, the equivalent of annual programs of nearly 30,000 thermal vehicles on the island. A major advance for Reunion, where sustainable construction becomes an essential issue.
The development and formulation of these "new generation" cements were carried out in the Teralta laboratory at the port with local teams.

Certified cements adapted to the challenges of tomorrow
Teralta is not content to reduce the environmental impact of its production, the company also ensures to guarantee the quality and performance of its products. Teralta thus engages in a voluntary approach to NF certification, a guarantee of reliability for all actors in the Reunionese construction.
This initiative also meets the requirements of environmental regulations 2020 (RE 2020), which imposes strict standards to limit the carbon impact of new constructions by taking into account all the programs of the building throughout its life cycle.

Towards a new generation of low carbon concrete for the meeting
The impact of this new high performance factory is not limited to cement production. She opens the way to a Evolution of concrete formulations by integrating its new low carbon cements in the constructions of the territory. By mastering the entire production chain, From cement to concrete, Teralta contributes to an in -depth transformation of the Reunionese construction sector. A progress that is part of a long -term vision : That of a more sustainable island.
This project testifies to the ability of local economic players to innovate to meet environmental issues, while strengthening the island's independence and resilience in the face of climatic challenges.
Available from April 2025, The first range of reduced carbon footprint cements will mark a decisive turning point. And from 2026, A new generation of so -called "very low carbon" cements will strengthen this dynamic, confirming Teralta and the Audemard group for a more responsible construction.

With Teralta, The best is to build !

Yannick Sinama, Director of Teralta Ciment.

We are proud to formulate the cements of the future
"An important step is taken with our new factory. We are proud to formulate the cements of the future which will help support the actors of the construction in their approach to reduce their carbon footprint. They are not only low carbon cements, but also new concrete with reduced carbon footprints that will be born ! Thanks to this project and control of the sector, The carbon emission reduction would be equivalent to the annual CO2 production of nearly 30,000 vehicles on the island ! This is a concrete contribution from Teralta to its territory in terms of carbon reduction and innovation. »
