Using music to drive sales in stores has long been hampered by audio dropouts and poor sound quality. Danish company Spottune has developed a new solution with patented omnidirectional sound, a new wireless broadcasting technology, lossless sound and a Cloud system that allows central control of all speakers anywhere in the world.
In retail stores, supermarkets, restaurants or even offices, music plays an increasingly important role in customer experience. However, it is also an area where significant issues have plagued store managers and installers : the relaxing ambiance that stores try to encourage is disrupted by poor sound quality or signal losses, and the need for recalibration makes rearranging and adding new speakers to the sound system a complicated and expensive affair.
These challenges have now been addressed by Danish audio company Spottune, who developed a new patented omnidirectional speaker with revolutionary technology, guaranteeing uniform sound, stable and high quality, controlled via a Cloud solution that allows local and central management of the sound experience across all sites.
A cloud-based system
“It all started when I encountered venue managers who were so unhappy with their current audio solution that they had turned off their wireless connections due to audio loss. We fixed this problem by switching from regular Wi-Fi data transfer, to audio-based wireless broadcasting technology and allowing a single master to adjust the systems of an entire chain,” says Søren Louis Pedersen, inventor and CEO of Spottune.
It is the world’s first cloud-based audio solution for businesses. It offers full control of playlists, volume and performance of each location via a single hub, even if it extends over several countries and continents. With Spottune, each speaker can be controlled and managed remotely, without any need for local expertise.
Omnidirectional sound
Patented 360 omnidirectional acoustic sound, allows for better comfort and lower volume. Speakers can transmit the full sound spectrum in all directions, which results in an optimized experience regardless of the customer's position in relation to the speaker – even when positioned at different heights, technology automatically adjusts sound for smooth sound transitions. It is a plug-and-play system where each speaker covers 75 m2, and can easily be rearranged on tracks already used for lights, where they automatically align with other Spottune speakers.
Ordinary wireless audio systems are primarily designed for home solutions with little network interference. New Spottune wireless solution is designed for areas with multiple conflicting networks and smartphones, for example when customers with smartphones enter a store with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth enabled. This can create disruption in regular Wi-Fi sound systems since they use the same frequency. The more customers there are, the more possible disturbances, the more likely sound losses are. As Spottune's solution uses another wireless protocol, it does not suffer any interference from smartphones or Wi-Fi networks.
