Illegal fishing : two Malagasy dhows intercepted
The Seychelles Defense Forces intercepted two Malagasy dhows with 56 crew members and a significant quantity of sea cucumbers on board at the end of April, approximately 395 nautical miles southwest of Mahé.. One of the two ships, very dilapidated, sank while being transported back to Mahé. Illegal fishermen handed over to Malagasy authorities. Very popular in Asian markets, sea cucumbers (holothuries) are the subject of intense trafficking against which the Member States of the Indian Ocean Commission are striving to combat.
