Tuna fishing : for maintaining DCPs
The Seychelles voted in early February against a proposal from the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (CTOI) to ban fish aggregating devices (DCP) for seventy-two days each year. The country considers that this measure would be too unfavorable to companies that fish with purse seines and therefore to land-based activities dependent on this sector., notably the cannery, in Seychelles. Significant disagreements are emerging between IOTC partners regarding the ways and means to use to sustain the tuna resource in the Indian Ocean.

Inflation contained in 2022
Seychelles managed to control inflation in 2022, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. In December 2022, the price increase stood at 2,53% over one year, against 7,85% in December 2021. Prices of food products, which represent approximately 13% of the basket studied, experienced increases of 9,13% for fresh fish, widely consumed in the archipelago. Other food products (oils and fats, bread and cereals, frozen fruits and fish, smoked, salty) have generally increased by 2,45 %. On the other hand, declines were recorded in the categories of non-alcoholic drinks, meat, milk, cheese and eggs. In the non-food category, the price increase was 2,44% compared to December 2021. It concerned housing, water, electricity and gas, restaurants and hotels, miscellaneous goods and services, clothes and shoes.
