First aquaculture projects
Six research and operating licenses aimed at launching aquaculture production were granted in mid-December to private investors. The Seychelles wish to ease the pressure on fishery resources in their waters while substituting local production for the importation of certain seafood products.. The species concerned by the first projects are sea cucumbers, mangrove crabs, rock oysters, shrimp and sea cucumbers. Future farms will be able to use fish waste from local processing plants as feed.. Other project leaders are working on fish farming projects for snapper and yellowfin tuna..
