Debt is reduced thanks to tourism
The head of mission of the International Monetary Fund for Seychelles highlighted in early October the robustness of the economic recovery in the archipelago after the health crisis. According to government forecasts, Seychelles expected to record growth above 10% in 2022, as long as the consequences of the war in Ukraine do not worsen the situation at the end of the year. “The pace of budgetary consolidation was a little faster than expected thanks to the efforts of the government, but also to an improvement in the national economic environment. Debt vulnerability has also significantly reduced”, IMF representative told Seychelles News Agency.
Towards energy recovery from waste
The World Bank will help Seychelles to equip itself with a waste-to-energy unit. Out of 95,000 tonnes of waste produced per year on the archipelago, more than half could be the subject of such valorization. Consultations with companies likely to respond to such a market will begin in 2023, with a goal of signing in early 2024.
