26% of respondents to a questionnaire distributed by the CCI Réunion in April said they were considering closing their business. Among them, 5% were already in the process of closing, 55% planned to close in the next three months and 40% were considering this outcome but not for three months. 595 companies responded to this questionnaire, belonging mainly to the commercial sectors, catering and services. 85% of respondents declared a drop in turnover of more than 30% due to the restrictive measures taken to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.. 97% of restaurants and bars are in this situation, just like 75% of businesses, 81% of hotels, 86% of service companies, 76% of construction companies and 69% of industries. 27% of respondents also indicated that they were no longer able to pay their rent and had requested solidarity from their landlord. 53% were refused by the latter, the others having obtained a spread or partial reduction of the rent, or even complete abandonment. 42% said they could no longer pay their employees, 32% their fixed charges, 25% their suppliers. In the catering sector, 57% of responding companies have set up a takeaway service, the others did not do it by choice but by impossibility. Only 24% have set up a delivery service. Finally, 88% of companies responded that they had experienced an increase in freight rates for their supplies, this being estimated at 28% on average. 78% of them complain about delivery delays, sometimes important, arising from disruptions to maritime and air traffic.
