The global logistics service provider opened, January 1st, an operational and commercial office in Reunion. Located near the airport, Rhenus offers end-to-end sea and air transport services.
By settling on the island, the German group Rhenus continues to expand its presence throughout the world. In a context of strong development, the French subsidiary of the Rhenus group, specialized in international transport commission, has just opened an office near Roland Garros airport. IATA approved, the office offers its clients “end-to-end” international transport services thanks to a local sales and operational team. The agency, which benefits from the international Rhenus network, covers transport activities in the Indian Ocean, with the possibility of also serving the other islands in the region. She bring, especially, specific expertise in the logistics of the pharmaceutical product sectors, live animals and perishable products, like food products and flowers. “It was at the request of our clients on Reunion Island that we decided to open our own office which will allow us to better serve them., without intermediary, and will also open us to new markets, such as Madagascar, Maurice, Seychelles, Mozambique and Kenya”, explains Christophe Barreau, president of Rhenus Air & Ocean France, who led this implementation.
The meeting, a promising territory
With the continued growth of the local population as well as constant export volumes from Reunion to other Indian Ocean islands, Rhenus intends to become a crucial player in the commercial development of the island, with a specific offer focused on customer demand. In 2021, Réunion imported 6,2 billion euros of goods, while its exports amount to 376 million euros. France is the main supplier to the island, with a proportion of 59% of directly imported products, according to French customs. Finally Rhenus recalls that the France Relance program, endowed with 100 billion euros by the French government to revive the economy and promote employment, includes an envelope of 546 million euros for Reunion.
