Following the cancellation of elections to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Réunion, the prefecture has set up a commission responsible for handling current affairs. To compose it, a decree dated February 11 designated four former members of the consular chamber : Shehnaz Bagot, William Giraud, Arjouhoussen Mahamadaly et Alex How Choong. The one who was president of the CCI from 1986 to 1991 is also responsible for chairing the commission. A new ballot must be organized within two months after the end of the appeal period., either by the end of April 2022 at the latest. The administrative court's judgment of January 31 annulling the elections also suspended the mandates of the elected candidates., “having regard to the nature and seriousness of the irregularities committed”. The judges ruled that Ibrahim Patel was ineligible because the company on whose behalf he was running was “phantom”, not exercising activity for at least two years.
