A toxic score for household products
The Minister of Ecological and Inclusive Transition, Barbara Pompili, announced on May 7 the creation within two years of a toxic score which will aim to indicate on the packaging the degree of harmfulness of household products. The design of this new indicator will be done under the aegis of the National Consumption Council, body dependent on the Ministry of the Economy, in agreement with representatives of household product professionals and consumers. It will take into account the health risks for the user and the risks for the environment..
It is not yet clearly established whether the toxi score will be left to the free choice of the manufacturer, at least initially, or if it will be obligatory. The toxic score proposal dates from December 2019. It appears in Michel Vianay's report, president of the information mission on endocrine disruptors present in plastic food containers, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.
