The Réunion Invasive Species Group presented on March 12 its new communication campaign for the preservation of the island’s natural heritage..
In 2020, the GEIR had carried out a study on the opinions of Reunion Islanders about invasive species. The results showed a strong awareness of the problem of invasive species among the population, but also a strong lack of information and knowledge about these species. Furthermore, one in four Reunion Islanders is unaware of the presence of invasive species on the island. In response, the GEIR wanted to launch a communication campaign, financed by the State and supported by the Department. One of the tools of this campaign is the Préserv sat nou nana label, accompanied by a mascot, which highlights the combat actions carried out by GEIR actors. 160 invasive species have been recorded on the island, both in the fauna and in the flora.
