At the initiative of Nordev, On November 9 and 10, Ambition Planète brought together several major public and private stakeholders — communities, at the Saint-Denis Exhibition and Congress Center., companies, associations — under the sign of sustainable development in the presence of guests from Madagascar, Maurice, Mayotte and Rodrigues. This first edition is intended to be renewed each year in order to take stock of the experiences and actions to continue or implement..

There will have been more than 300 participants in the first edition of the Ambition Planète meetings, where nearly 3,000 eco-delegate students from the island’s middle and high schools were able to present their projects thanks to the support of Crédit Agricole and the academy. This edition, on the scale of the Indian Ocean already, saw the participation of a Malagasy minister, Mauritian and Rodriguan deputies and Mahorais representatives to the discussions. Two great witnesses gave their support to this first edition : explorer-director Gaël Derive, specialist in climate change, and Thione Niang, farmer of Senegalese origin and international speaker, creator of several NGOs in the theme of sustainable development. Three round tables around twenty speakers were organized on the climate emergency, the keys to a successful ecological transition and the development of virtuous consumer territories. Seven workshops dealt with the themes of biodiversity, renewable energies, waste management, of the layout, mobility, food… In an “Expo Village”, a little more than twenty partners of the event testified about their actions carried out in Reunion and in the Indian Ocean zone.

Return of the workshops
Ambition Planète wishes to create a unifying space for dialogue and information around the theme of preserving the planet. Who does what and what cooperation is possible in our region ? Several commitments were made and various actions were announced for 2023 during these discussions. (see box). The beginnings of a partnership between the city of Saint-Denis and the Malagasy government have been outlined. The restitution of the seven workshops, which will be the subject of a future publication, will provide a more complete view of Ambition Planète. “The current situation and the emergence of ecological issues such as climate change, rising waters, the fight against the use of greenhouse gases, require us to behave responsibly. New behaviors and new sensitivities in favor of sustainable development and ecology must be recognized, supported and accompanied”, a souligné Jacques Lowinsky, president of Nordev.

THE FIRST COMMITMENTS
Nordev has committed to reducing its energy consumption by 10% within two years. Sodiparc will equip its depots with photovoltaic panels over 10,000 m2, for a production of 1,5 megawatt, i.e. the equivalent of the consumption of 1,450 Dionysian inhabitants. It will set up 25 electric charging stations in Saint-Denis. Runéo is committed to reducing electricity consumption at the Grand Prado STEP. The city of Saint-Denis will reduce the consumption of the 17,000 light points in the city and the Stade de l’Est by replacing them with LEDs (reduction from 2,000 to 800 watts for the stadium). Cinor will supply 1,000 rain collectors from 2023. The Region has made a commitment to support all actions in partnership with project leaders, for example the transformation of high school courtyards into planted oases, and the planting of endemic trees along national roads.
