According to Reunion Island Tourism, 202,542 foreign tourists visited Reunion in the first half of 2022. The figure is still 13 lower,6% compared to 2019, before the health crisis, but much higher than that of 2021 (80,000 arrivals over the same period, when travel was still subject to many restrictions, while many regional lines remained closed). Tourism revenue for the first half of the year is estimated at 171,8 million euros by the IRT, compared to 182 million in 2019. The recovery seems to be confirmed : the results of the second quarter were better than those of the first, nearly 52,000 arrivals were recorded in July, and attendance for the first seven months of the year is already higher than for the entire year 2021. The profile of tourists going to Reunion has barely changed in 2022 : 85% of them come from mainland France, for 9% of the Indian Ocean and for less than 5% of other European countries, mainly from Germany, from Belgium and Switzerland. 44% of tourists are affinity, and one in five visitors is of Reunionese origin. Nearly one in two tourists stay with relatives or friends, 24% in seasonal rentals and 18% in classified hotels.
