On May 28, the prefect of Réunion presented a first list of local projects already selected as part of the agricultural and forestry component of France Relance.. La Sicabat, slaughtering and meat processing company, will thus be supported in its project to strengthen the processing capacities of its workshop (4 million euros investment). Three Reunion projects, involving a total investment of 1,4 million euros and aimed at improving breeding conditions and animal welfare on farms, were also retained.
Among the 5 Reunion urban agriculture and shared gardens files submitted to France Relance, that supported by the association Solidarité Etudiante Réunion (52,000 euros investment) has already been retained. The social grocery project, solidarity and itinerant of Cias-Sud (187 000 euros) will also be supported, just like those of the National Forestry Office (creation of a nursery to supply endemic plants to the island’s public forests, 97 000 euros) and Sapef (acquisition of a hammer mill for 258,000 euros).
Three Reunion projects directly linked to agriculture and the timber sector were also selected following the national call for projects Territoires d’industrie. This involves the creation of a wooden structure manufacturing factory by the company Archipel Bois Industrie (3 million euros invested), of the creation of a packaging line for canned grains grown in Cilaos by Soleil Réunion (252 000 euros) and the construction of a photovoltaic power plant on the roof of the CIRAD building, in Saint-Pierre (844 000 euros).
The Recovery Plan will finally support territorial food projects, aimed at bringing production and consumption closer together. A first file was accepted, carried by the municipality of Cilaos. Others should follow.
