Fisheries monitoring : a common regional mission
Failing to dissuade Sri Lankan migrants from transiting through the waters of Chagos (British Indian Ocean Territory), the United Kingdom lends its assistance to monitoring actions for fishing and illegal trafficking in the area. End of September, the Royal Navy participated in a joint mission called Sunfish with the Seychelles Coast Guards and the Seychelles Air Force. It took place in the exclusive economic zone of Seychelles. During the operation more than 30 vessels were located and monitored over an area of more than 108,000 km². This regional initiative is part of the implementation of the cooperation agreement signed between the Regional Maritime Information Fusion Centers and the United Kingdom in January 2022.
