An NGO facing tuna boats
Last February, the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission has taken a historic decision to ban drifting FADs 72 days a year, in order to preserve the resource. The measure is due to come into force in August, unless more than a third of the 30 members of the IOTC oppose it. Seven of them had already done so in mid-May, including France, Seychelles and the European Union. L’ONG Bloom, who campaigns against the harms of industrial fishing, filed a free appeal at the beginning of May against the French and European decisions, considering that they are contrary to the general interest and only serve the interests of a few Spanish and French shipping companies.
