The Réunion Region officially took possession of the 5,400 meter viaduct linking Saint-Denis to Grande-Chaloupe on March 30. Even if the conciliation procedures are far from being completed between the project owner and the group of companies led by Vinci, which requires several hundred euros to add to the initial envelope (716 million euros), a symbolic step is taken in the construction of the New Coastal Road. After various finishing works, in particular to set up horizontal and vertical signage, the viaduct will theoretically be operational. But at least nine months will pass before the first motorists can use it, while the temporary ramp is built between the Grande dike-Rowboat and current road. Since then, the NRL will be open to traffic on approximately two-thirds of its route. For the last third, we will still have to wait. The call for tenders must be launched in the coming weeks for the construction of a dike of 2,7 km between La Possession and Grande-Chaloupe, after the cancellation of the initial contract. Career fault, these are the agricultural windrows which will be mobilized to constitute the body of the dike. The presence of Cyrille Melchior, president of the Departmental Council, alongside the regional president and the prefect during the delivery of the viaduct, March 30, was not trivial. The Department, who has jurisdiction over agriculture, will have an important role to play in the implementation of the “windows plan” which will supply the site.
