Last March 30, Ibrahim Patel, president of the CCI Réunion, wrote publicly to Mercialys to deplore that the property owner of the walls of four shopping malls (those of the old Jumbo, welcoming 251 businesses) did not take the action requested by the government : the cancellation of three months of rent to compensate for the consequences of the health crisis. He drew a curt response, three days later. In his letter also made public, Mercialys recalled that it had gone well beyond what had been negotiated nationally to safeguard activity in shopping centers forced to close or penalized by the introduction of gauges.. Only tenants who were “excluded from our support system were, before the pandemic, were in dispute with us, in a significant unpaid situation, planning to leave and break the contractual relationship”, emphasized Mercialys. This provision, compliant with the national charter, concerned 12 cases out of the 251 tenants of the property company.
