Every year as the end of year holidays approach, the house of Giffard unveils one or more collector bottles. This year, a new Menthe-Pastille collection highlights the city of Angers, his city of heart and origin, associated with pop and sparkling colors.
The history of Menthe-Pastille has its roots in Angers in 1885 thanks to Émile Giffard, herbalist pharmacist, passionate about medicinal and aromatic plants. Focusing on the refreshing and digestive virtues of mint, he selects a unique species of peppermint : the Mitcham plant, known for its strong scent and refreshing power. This is how he developed a pure white mint liqueur, crystal clear and subtle. During the scorching summer of 1885, the pharmacist decides to have his creation tested by customers of the Grand Hôtel d’Angers : success is immediate. Menthe-Pastille was born. Regional symbol of western France, Menthe-Pastille is still produced in Angers. She is the pride of a local business, family and independent which illustrates, from yesterday to today, the hundred-fifty-year-old and always renewed marriage between tradition and modernity.
An even more beautiful label
The labels of the 2024 collector's bottles feature the historic monuments of the Maine-et-Loire prefecture in a geometric style., mixed with bright colors : rose, orange and yellow, with typography reminiscent of neon lights. The distinctive signs of Menthe-Pastille are still present : a transparent bottle, highlighting its totem color, green, strong marker of Angevin liqueur. For a more festive touch, the benchmark elements, like 1885 and the signature of Emile Giffard, are enhanced with a coppery gold, matching the details of the bottle. The collection is available from October in supermarkets.
