Maritime shuttles in project
The Mayotte DEAL launched a survey of road users in the Mamoudzou area in mid-January., with a view to creating maritime shuttles. The transport of passengers by coasting boat in front of the great Mamoudzou is one of the solutions studied to relieve congestion on the interurban road network.. Two lines could be set up in the coming years, between the north of Grande Terre and the capital on the one hand, entre Iloni (south of the urban area and Mamoudzou on the other hand).
A boulevard to bypass Mamoudzou
Work to create a road bypass of Mamoudzou via the heights of the commune, congested by inextricable daily traffic jams, must start in 2025. The financing plan for the operation must be completed by the departmental council by next March. The State could contribute around 300 million euros, the Department of a hundred million and the European Union to release 700 million in seven successive installments. However, the route of the future route remains to be defined., 27 meters wide, who will have to cross natural spaces and private properties. The community wishes to favor the route on which it has the most land, in order to reduce costs. The plot exchange procedure will also be sought as a priority, to avoid the complexity of expropriations.
Slight drop in births
The “largest maternity ward in France”, that of the Mayotte hospital center, recorded 10,200 births in 2023, number down by 5,5% compared to 2022. The CHM had recorded an exceptional peak in births in 2021 and 2022 (more than 10,700), after the fall observed in 2020, year severely disrupted by the health crisis. The Mahorese birth rate remains no less impressive. Nearly 28 babies will be born every day in 2023 : as many children as will need to be educated in a few years.
