Long track project : environmental reserves
L’Autorité environnementale de l’Etat a publié le 23 décembre dernier un avis plutôt critique sur le projet de construction d’une piste longue à l’aéroport de Mayotte. She particularly points to the inadequacy, at this stage, assessments of the impact of dredging in the lagoon, but also extractions of materials necessary for the site. Two options are being studied for the future track. Leurs besoins respectifs s’élèvent à 3,7 et 7,7 millions de tonnes de matériaux. Likewise, the Environmental Authority underlines the potential risks of the site for terrestrial and marine species and questions the compatibility of the project with that of the inscription of the Mahorais lagoon as a world heritage site. It also questions the need for a long runway due to technological developments that will make it possible to manufacture planes whose weight-to-power ratio will allow take-offs over shorter distances than today..
Cotton bags for small businesses
The "tote bag" trend arrives in Mayotte, through a sewing cooperative which launched this production at the request of the CCI and the Dembéni-Mamoudzou agglomeration community. Made of cotton, washable and reusable, ces sacs à courses ont dans un premier temps été produits à 1 000 exemplaires, made available to small grocery stores in Mayotte (the "doukas"). The same sewing cooperative is also continuing its activity of manufacturing “anti-Covid” masks and gowns for the Center Hospitalier de Mayotte.
