Air Mauritius reprise par Airport Holding Ltd
The Mauritian state has decided to save the national company, Air Mauritius, via Airport Holding Ltd, the public managing company, among others, from Plaisance airport. Historical partner of the Mauritian company, Air India, recently bought by Tata, has decided to sell its shares to AHL and Air France, also co-founder of Air Mauritius at the end of the 1960s, should do the same. Rogers also withdrew from the capital and small private shareholders, who hold 19% of the shares, are under strong pressure to sell. Since then, the company would become an entirely state structure. It will still have to succeed in its restructuring. Air Mauritius has sold 6 of its 15 aircraft and will have difficulty retaining the 2,300 employees who currently make up its workforce.

Corsair returns to the Mauritian skies
Corsair resumed service to Mauritius on October 22, following the reopening of the island's borders to tourists, accompanied by various vaccination conditions, tests and quarantine. The company announces 3 weekly direct flights between Orly and Plaisance, as well as two connecting flights to Reunion Island. Likewise, Corsair will extend its two weekly flights to Mauritius from Lyon and Marseille to Reunion Island. All these flights are operated with the new 352-seat Airbus A330neo.

The price of electricity could soar
Rise in coal and heavy fuel oil prices, depreciation of the rupee against the dollar : Mauritius fears that the increase in electricity production costs will soon be passed on to consumers. Coal represents 40% of the Mauritian electricity mix, fuel oil 36%. If power plants connected to sugar mills can currently run on bagasse, this will no longer be the case at the end of the year, when the sugar campaign is over. The fear is all the more acute as consumption is expected to increase with the need for air conditioning during the austral summer., at a time when the hotel sector, at a standstill since the start of the pandemic, regain activity.

The University of Mauritius poorly ranked
The university loses 4 places in the ranking of African universities compared to 2020 : she is in 89th place this year. South Africa continues to monopolize the first places : the 6 best universities on the continent are South African. A university in Cairo, in Egypt, comes in 7th position.
