IBL still at the top of the top 100
Our colleague Business Magazine recently published the 2023 edition of the “top 100 Companies”,ranking of Mauritian companies in terms of turnover. The CIEL group remains its main challenger, with a turnover of 35,4 billion (+24 %). Airport Holdings Ltd (Air Mauritius, Airports of Mauritius Ltd, Mauritius Duty Free Paradise…) made a spectacular leap to reach the third step of the podium, with a turnover of 33,4 billion rupees.
Next comes Eclosia, ENL, Vivo Energy, The Leal Group, Tight petroleum, New Mauritius Hotels et Indian Oil. “The combined turnover of the 100 largest companies totals 549,8 billion rupees, against 417,3 billion in the previous ranking, an increase of 31,7 % », souligne Business Magazine. A progression linked both to the recovery of the Mauritian economy after the health crisis and to inflation.

Sapmer s’en va
Sapmer announced on November 8 the upcoming sale of its three tuna vessels under the Mauritian flag to a South American shipowner, “in order to ensure the sustainability of the company and its jobs. The significant drop in quotas (-60% in 3 years) as well as the inflation of Mauritian regulatory constraints weigh heavily on the profitability of this activity”, argues the Reunion armament, which also deplores “a multitude of unprecedented regulatory constraints, such as the tax on fish not landed or sold in Mauritius or the obligation to sell to the Mauritian cannery”.
