Estimated growth of 5,2 % pour 2023
After a vigorous economic recovery in 2022 and 7% GDP growth, the State Bank of Mauritius estimates that this will reach 5,2% in 2023. Mauritians are also tourists
The Mauritians, them too, have traveled a lot in 2022, after the lifting of the last restrictions linked to the health crisis. 230,000 departures abroad were recorded last year. Nearly 59,000 of them were destined for the United Arab Emirates, most popular destination ; undoubtedly in order to continue the journey via the Dubai hub for some of these travelers. France comes in second place among the most popular destinations for Mauritians (more than 36,000 departures). Reunion welcomed almost as many cousins (31 500) in 2022.

Tourist attendance : the recovery is confirmed
Mauritius welcomed 90,000 visitors in February 2023, confirming the resumption of tourist numbers on the island after the long parenthesis of the health crisis. This monthly report is, however, lower than those of 2019 and 2020, when the country had received more than 100,000 travelers. On the month, more than 30,000 French travelers from mainland France were counted, as well as 8,600 Britons, 8,200 Germans, 4,600 Reunion Islanders and 2,400 Indians. During the first two months of 2023, Mauritius welcomed 195,000 tourists arriving by plane, a figure also lower than those of 2019 and 2020. The average length of their stay was twelve days.

Exports : South Africa and Europe, main markets
South Africa alone drained 13,4% of Mauritian exports in 2022, or 11,1 billion rupees out of a total of 83 billion (environ 1,6 billion euros). However, Europe remains the main market for Mauritius. (more than 40% of exports last year). Madagascar ranks second behind South Africa (9 %), in front of France (8,7 %), the United Kingdom (8,6 %) and the United States (8 %).
