The number of new car sales fell by only 4,88% in the 1st semester in Reunion, under the effect of the shortage of semiconductors which pushed manufacturers to reduce their activity. The brake (15,493 registrations) is significantly less brutal than that observed in mainland France over the period (-16 %). Commercial vehicle sales increased in the first six months of the year (3,135 sales, +23 %), thanks to dynamic economic activity and the resumption of purchases by car rental companies, to meet that of tourist attendance. Peugeot, which saw its sales drop by 7,1 %, despite everything remains market leader ahead of Renault, whose registrations increased by 7,4 %. The decline in Citroën sales was more significant (-13 %). Electric vehicle sales continued to grow in the first half (+42 %, 1,431 registrations), just like those of hybrid vehicles (+30 %). Vice versa, the decline in diesel car registrations continued (-29 %). Reunion automotive professionals are counting on an improvement in the situation in the second half of the year, which would make it possible to maintain the same level of sales in 2022 as in 2021.
