Maldives turning away from India
The Maldives have obtained the departure of the 85 Indian soldiers stationed on their territory for several years, to carry out medical evacuation missions in particular. The new Maldivian president, Mohamed Muizzu, was elected last November after campaigning against Indian interference in the country, while the Narendra Modi regime has taken an anti-Muslim turn and Islam is the state religion in the Maldives. Vice versa, the archipelago near the southern tip of the Indian continent is moving closer to Beijing and signed a strategic partnership with China at the start of the year.
