The U brand replaces Shoprite
The ten Malagasy supermarkets under the Shoprite brand are gradually moving to the U brand, after their acquisition by the French distribution group, associated with the Malagasy group Habibo. This last, national leader in the production of UHT milk and pasta, also imports many brands of food products (Candia, Lesieur, Panzani…). The first store to display the Système U colors is that of Analakely, in the center of Tananarive. It was inaugurated on November 10.
A highway between Tananarive and Tamatave
The Malagasy State and the Egyptian construction company Samcrete signed the contract for the construction of the first highway on the Big Island on November 3 in Tananarive.. If the announced deadlines are met, in four years it will connect the capital to Tamatave, the large port on the coast is currently being extended and the waterfront is currently in full redevelopment. The cost of the work is estimated at $924 million.. The Malagasy State will contribute 20% of this amount, the rest must come from donors and private investors. The highway will be tolled, with prices ranging from 15,000 to 2000 ariary (between 4 and 5 euros) depending on the vehicle. Without giving much precision on the future route, the President of the Republic Andry Rajoelina indicated that the highway would be only 260 km long, against 370 for the current national road. The structure will therefore have to cross the steep natural areas which shelter the rainforests of the east coast to reach Tamatave..
