The ADB supports electricity projects. The African Development Bank granted Madagascar a loan of 42 at the end of December,9 million dollars intended to finance the strengthening of the country's electricity network. A very high voltage line (220 000 volts) will be built, over 135 kilometers, between the capital Antananarivo and the city of Antsirabé.
In particular, it will allow the transmission of electricity produced by the future Sahofika hydroelectric power station, which could alone increase the rate of rural electrification from 6% to 15% in the Big Island.
Graphite : a second unit for the Tirupati Indian
After commissioning a first graphite production unit in Sahamamy at the beginning of 2019, between Tananarive and Tamatave, Indian group Tirupati announces the opening of a second site in Vatomina, in the same region, in the second quarter of 2020. 9,000 tonnes per year will thus be added to the 3,000 of the first unit. Recently listed on the stock exchange, in London, Tirupati targets high-growth markets with its graphite production, such as batteries for electric vehicles or energy storage.
Two young bosses in the spotlight
Two young Malagasy business leaders appear in the 2020 ranking of “the most talented young African economic leaders of their generation”, established by the French Institut Choiseul. The latter "identifies, identifies and ranks young African leaders aged 40 and under who play or are expected to play a major role in the economic development of the continent in the near future », since 2014. Shahim Ishmael, Managing Director of the SMTP industrial group, appears in 22nd place in this ranking. Hasnaine Yavarhoussen, Managing Director of the diversified Filatex group, figure for its part in 37th position.
