The University of Réunion and the Research Institute for Development (IRD) are partners in three mixed research units : Espace-Dev (space observation, models and science involved), pimi (Infectious process in an island environment) and Entropy (Tropical Marine Ecology of the Pacific and Indian Oceans). Mi-November, on the occasion of Valérie Verdier’s visit to Réunion, President and CEO of the IRD, the two entities have decided to strengthen their partnership. The IRD was thus invited to join the Observatory of Sciences of the Universe, university component, in agreement with its two other guardianships (CNRS and Météo France). Based in Reunion since 1987, the IRD experienced a sharp increase in its workforce from 2007 with the establishment of the Center for Research and Monitoring on Emerging Diseases in the Indian Ocean (GIS CRVOI), following the chikungunya epidemic, whose coordination was ensured by the IRD in partnership with the University of La Réunion. In 2015, the GIS CRVOI was merged with the Research Group in Infectious Immuno-Pathologies to form the UMR Pimit.
