A survey carried out at the end of November by Ipsos among 400 purchasing managers in Reunion households shows a stronger perception of inflation on the island than in mainland France., where the price increase is nevertheless higher. 79% of those questioned believe that their shopping budget has increased significantly, compared to 59% in mainland France. Selon Ipsos, the product categories that Reunion Islanders deprive themselves of the least, because they are less impacted by inflation, are health products and non-alcoholic drinks. On the other hand, a majority of Reunion Islanders have reduced their spending on high-tech products, vacation and travel, of restaurants, leisure and clothing. In the category of products strongly marked by price increases, Reunion Islanders spend more to buy fuel (only a quarter of them managed to reduce this often essential budget), fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, oil… 86% of those questioned say they buy more products on promotion and more than 60% buy low-cost products more often and consult the catalogs of retail brands in search of good deals.
