Despite the health crisis and the collapse of traffic, Roland-Garros airport maintains its new terminal project, even if the dimensions of the installation and the amount of the investment were revised downwards compared to the initial project. The operation was officially presented on October 7. “We could have put our foot on the brake, on the contrary, we have chosen to look to the future”, declared on this occasion Marie-Anne Bacot, chairwoman of the supervisory board of the Airport Company. The new terminal will be built perpendicular to the existing building and will be entirely dedicated to welcoming arriving passengers.. The investment of 65 million euros is 60% financed by the European Union. The Airport Company also benefits from the support of the European Investment Bank, under an agreement concluded in June 2018. The new western terminal must be delivered at the end of 2023. It will increase the capacity of the platform to 3 million passengers per year, a threshold which should be reached by 2030 according to new traffic forecasts, integrating a gradual resumption of aviation activities with the end of the health crisis. The future building has been designed to significantly limit the use of air conditioning and its energy consumption.. The trade winds which blow very regularly over Gillot will be used to naturally ventilate the baggage delivery room, from where the hot air will be evacuated through a green opening which will separate the roof into two parts.
