A study carried out by INSEE and the Environment Department, planning and housing (DEAL) made it possible to measure the exposure of Reunion Islanders to nuisances and risks.
It shows that road noise bothers 16% of the island’s inhabitants., especially in the Bas, less than 150 meters above sea level. Drinking water is frequently of poor quality for 5% of the population and up to half during periods of heavy rain.. Flood risks affect 11% of residents, land movements 7%, especially in the Hauts. Residents are more frequently exposed to several of these risks or nuisances simultaneously in the Eastern region..
