In 2023, 29,865 new vehicles (individuals and utilities) were sold in Reunion, number down from 0,7% compared to the previous year.
A gloomy economic climate and the rise in credit rates seem to be the main causes of this stagnation, on an island where more than 33,000 vehicles had been registered before the crisis, in 2019. Sales of electric cars, however, continue to grow : 3,632 sales in 2023 compared to 2,806 in 2022. They represented nearly 15% of sales over the year, and almost 28% in the premium segment. On the two highest steps of the podium, the positions have been reversed. Renault tops sales, thanks to an increase of 10% (5,034 registrations), while Peugeot is retreating (-12 %), with 4,689 registrations. Toyota maintains its third place (2,683 sales), ahead of Hyundai (1,808 sales) not Kia (1,345 sales).
