The Réunion Region has been enjoying its title of carpooling champion in France for a year. But it does not stop there... Thanks to the mobilization of exemplary Reunion Islanders, even more astonishing records have just been broken.
Who would have bet that the Reunionese would be ready to share their sacrosanct car ? However, the announcement was made in June : reduced to the number of inhabitants, Reunion Island is the French carpooling champion. It surpasses Île-de-France in terms of daily carpooling. Today, one in four Reunion residents is registered on Karos among employed workers or students : the milestone of 100,000 registrants has been reached on the application. The partnership between the Réunion Region and the Karos application, specialized in carpooling on daily journeys, started in early 2018. The establishment of co-financing of journeys by the Region, rising fuel prices, l’inflation, the exceptional mobilization of students thanks to the journeys offered by the application, mobilization of public and private employers, these are all factors which have contributed to the explosion of the practice on the island. Pole position goes to employees of the Réunion national park, who carpool 22 times more than other island residents ! More than two thirds are registered on the application. A similar system is currently being deployed among other employers, particularly health establishments, administrations and private employers.
