Digital access to the main banking services is becoming part of the habits of Reunion Islanders, confirms a study by the Issuing Institute of Overseas Departments.
More than half of those surveyed (in 2022) declare to consult their accounts or use banking services via a mobile application made available to them by their bank. This modality precedes consultation on the Internet (with a computer, a tablet or smartphone), via the bank's website, cited by 38% of Reunion Islanders. Agency consultation, on the other hand, is no longer the case for only 20% of customers.
Reunion residents still seem to consume digital access banking services less than metropolitan residents.. They therefore visit their bank’s website less regularly : 4 out of 10 residents of Réunion say they use online banking services at least once a week compared to 6 out of 10 metropolitan residents. On the other hand, only 4% of people surveyed on the island have one of their accounts in an online bank, compared to 19% in mainland France. However, the younger generations of Reunion Island are more sensitive to the offers of these establishments : 9% of 18-29 year olds have one of their accounts in an online bank.
