Purchase motivations, benefits for the animal : after three years of existence, a recent fundraising and growing success, rule, the leader in kibbles based on insect proteins, wanted to carry out a study with its consumers.
Eco-friendly solution to meet the growing demand for protein worldwide, insects have been feeding domestic animals for several years now. Particularly in France, at the initiative of Reglo, company imagined by two brothers, Basile and Maxime Laigre, from Normandy. Made with a majority of local ingredients, croquettes based on insect proteins perfectly meet the nutritional needs of carnivores. These insects provide them with digestible and environmentally friendly proteins., as well as nutritional balance, thanks to essential amino acids, with the vitamins and minerals they naturally contain. Since its launch in June 2020, the Reglo team and community continue to grow. La start-up, which sources insect proteins from the French company Innovafeed, is not alone in this market, but is in the lead : it announced in the middle of last year that it was aiming for a thousand points of sale by 2025. In mass distribution, its products are already on the shelves, in a city, at Monoprix in 2023. The consumption of insect proteins is still new on the market, Reglo wanted to better understand its consumers. A panel of 350 respondents, all regions combined, was formed and interviewed in February.
Dry food for dogs and cats appreciated by animals
Study results : 47% of respondents were already completely convinced of the multiple benefits of insect proteins and did not hesitate to test them for their pet. Only 11% of respondents say they were hesitant before getting started and finally joining. To the question concerning the motivations for purchasing kibbles based on insect proteins, opinions are varied : 35% of respondents chose this option because of the nutritional qualities for the animal, 32% for the sustainable aspect and respect for the environment. About the product, 33% find insects a good solution to compensate for the consumption of animal proteins. Regarding the taste, 56% of pet owners note that their pet enjoys and eats with relish. Finally, 97% of consumers who love Reglo kibbles chose them because they have more confidence in a French SME.
