Prices fell between July and September

Household consumer prices fell by 0,4% between July and September in Reunion, indicates INSEE, who was unable to measure them in August due to confinement. Prices of manufactured goods fall by 1,2% over two months, due in particular to a sharp drop (-8,1%) clothing prices linked to the September sales. The decline that began in July in food prices continues (-0,6% over the last two months) after a first half of continuous increases. The decline is driven by the sharp drop in prices of fresh products (-8,4% over two months and -15,3% compared to the high point in June) which continues due to fresh vegetables. Excluding fresh produce, food prices increase by 0,1%. The prices of services fall by 0,2% between July and September. Transport rates fall by 24,4%, in connection with the seasonal drop in air fares, after the sharp increase in July. Prices for health services are also falling. Energy prices are up by 2,2% over the period studied. After +1,8% in July and +0,6% in June, the upward trend continues, driven by the prices of petroleum products which increase by 3,1%. Electricity prices remain stable. Over a year, prices of petroleum products increase by 16,7% in Réunion and are slightly above the level of February 2020, before the health crisis. The increase is nevertheless less than in France (19,6%)
