The consumer price index almost stabilized in Reunion in January, after three consecutive months of increase (+0,6% in October, +0,5% in November and December).
It increased by 0,1% only, according to INSEE. Food prices increased by 2% over the month, under the effect of the surge in prices of fresh produce (+16,7 %), particularly by the prices of vegetables which increased sharply following the passage of cyclone Belal. On the other hand, food prices are stable excluding fresh products. Prices of manufactured goods increased by 0,2 %, those of tobacco of 1,2 %, but energy prices have fallen (-2 %), just like those of the services (-0,3 %). Over a year, inflation was higher in Reunion (+4,2 %) than in France (+3,1 %), for the first time since December 2021. Significantly weaker since the start of 2022, it gradually approached the national level during the second half of 2023, until reaching an equivalent level in November.
